Fast Action and the Use of Heat Treatments will Eliminate Bed Bug complaints plaguing Minneapolis Owners of rental property 10-28-11 A True story from Emily one of “The Bed Bug Guy’s” customers After reading this article http://www.startribune.com/local/south/132287773.html (complaints plague owner of rental property) I empathy for theses people; because I recently had my own very unpleasant experience with bed bugs and a ________ landlord. After moving into my new condo I had the nightmare discovery of bed bugs. I started noticing bites on my skin, spots on my new sheets which I chalked up to mosquito bites and nicks on my legs from shaving. I was EIGHT months pregnant at the time. Two days after bringing home my daughter from the hospital, my husband brought my daughter to me in bed. He turned on the lights and that’s when I saw the first bug on my pillow. I asked my husband to get some tissue and the bug, but before he returned, I pulled back the sheet and saw ANOTHER bug. We immediately took to the internet and our worst fears were confirmed. We had bed bugs.
With a newborn in our home, immediate extermination was of the utmost importance. The first thing we read about was chemical treatments. I was not in favor of this method of Treatments for two reasons. #1: Newborn babies and chemicals do not mix. #2: After reading further about the evolution of bed bugs, I learned that they were highly adaptable and had built up resilience to chemical treatments. Fortunately there IS another method called "Thermal Eradication" or "Heat Treatment" We watched a video of THE BED BUG GUYS AT AMERICA'S BEST (whom I highly recommend) and made a phone call immediately. Jeff Berens was at my condo the next morning to conduct a Bed Bug Inspection; he determined the source of the "infestation" to be in my box spring and mattress. I was told of the severity of our problem, the number of visible bed bugs (between mattresses) and numerous trademark stains on our sheets that this infestation had to have begun several months prior to the inspection date.
This means I got the bed bugs from my previous rental. With no time to waste, we scheduled our “Heat Treatment” for the very next day. We left early the next morning, careful not to take anything out of the infested area with us; We came back the same day late in the evening to a very warm condo with NO BED BUGS. It’s been four months and we are still bed bug free. NO bites. NO stains. NO BUGS! A few days after having our new condo eradicated for Bed Bugs using a “heat treatment” I decided to pay my old Land lord a visit. A young brunette sitting at the second desk back on the left greeted me. I asked if the property manager was in, which of course he wasn’t, so I proceeded to let this young woman know that I used to live in one of their properties and that I had gotten bed bugs from that complex. I was shocked to listen to her tell me how “Manager know all about it” “he won’t pay for the heat treatment” “you’ll have to take him to court” and on and on she went filling me in on how the Manager knew of the buildings infestation, that he would only use chemicals IF tenants had an inspection done PROVING the presence of bed bugs AND that he made NO attempt to inform any tenants that bed bugs were present in the building!! The only notice I ever saw was in regard to roaches on the north side of the complex. WHAT DO ROACHES EAT????? BED BUGS!!!!! Go figure. Oh, it gets better. I happen to be very good friends with “Amy” who lived next door to me at my old apartment. She ended up having to go through a laundry list of legal procedures just to have maintenance, NOT EVEN A CERTIFIED EXTERMINATOR, “Bed Bug inspection” of her unit. She was told she didn’t have Bed Bugs. Now what does Amy Do??? She had to “catch” a BedBug, put it into a Ziploc bag, bring it into the office and physically SHOW them evidence of bed bugs in her unit. Only then did they offer to spray caustic chemicals throughout her apartment and advised her to “wash all your clothes”. “Amy” tried to stress to the Property Manager how she is very allergic and sensitive to many house hold cleaners/detergents and requested that before chemicals were used, she would need a list of all the ingredients to run it by her doctor. They never gave her the list, Went in when she was at work, sprayed her entire apartment and left a note on the door. I have lived in paranoia ever since that night I saw that little Bedbug on my pillow. I’ve vowed never to buy things at estate sales, borrow clothing to or from a friend. I’m weary of having guests in my home as well as entering others. I don’t like anyone putting their purse/bag by mine. I’m terrified of cardboard. I’m skeptical of department stores, laundry mats, hotels. I’ve started cleaning my house and doing laundry at an almost obsessive compulsive pace. It’s always in the back of my mind……… “Is that a bed bug!?!?” I am happy to hear that the city of Shakopee has made an effort to stop negligence like this that has led up to what is now an epidemic in Minneapolis and surrounding areas. Owners/Property managers have a responsibility to inform tenants of infestations, to take action upon notice of a problem and to abide by city ordinances in such matters. These people are facing CRIMINAL CHARGES! The schools are reporting kids bringing bed bugs into school with them! Using chemicals is not only potentially dangerous to humans and pets, but even worse; IT DOESN’T WORK Effectively to Eradicate Bed Bugs! All that chemicals do is Reduce & DISPLACE the bed bugs for a period of time. If you live in an apartment building and someone in your building has them too, they WILL be back Trust me, I’ve done quite an extensive amount of homework on this matter. The ONLY way to PERMANENTLY RID BED BUGS FROM YOUR RESIDENCE IS WITH “THERMAL ERADICATION” which literally bake the Bed Bug to death? My own Personal experience says “Nothing else will work.” Oh My God!!! “Amy”, just got Bed Bugs again. Now Amy has to go through all the Stress, Anxiety, Loss of sleep, and so much more again. Amy will always be thinking about getting Bed Bugs. We are both disgusted by the entire situation, we both bought new sheets, I bought a new down comforter, and new pillows “The Bed Bug Guys” give a 30 day guarantee to be Bed Bug Free with Heat Treatments; Just call 612-267-0335 or 952-884-1656 |
